How to start before you’re ready

“Start before you’re ready” has been the theme of my liiiiffeeeee, ya’ll! Sometimes I fall into the trap of feeling like you have to know all the things to get started and blah blah blah…and that’s simply not true. Spending these last few days in NYC amplified this message even more after attending Marie Forleo’s “Everything is Figureaboutable” experience and thinking about my own journey. I started a whole new life before I felt “I was ready.” What I feel it all boils down to is having an unwavering belief that you are capable of doing any and everything your heart desires, even if it may seem out of reach…at the moment.

Trust that you’re in a certain position or role for a reason and trust the process because it’s definitely a journey. Starting before I was ready has led me to so many great opportunities + has connected me with a lot of amazing people.

Keep this in mind, you wouldn’t have the dream if you didn’t already have what it takes to make it happen.

So if you’re ever thinking, I want to do xyz but I need to do xyz first. Don’t fall into that trap. You can start where you are. If you’re thinking, “ok Ebonee, what if I want to start an online business so that I can work from anywhere and travel but yet I need to learn a new skill that I can promote online?”

The thing about creating an online business is almost any skill can be transferred to an online skill. Think about it, if you’re currently working in a corporate environment I’m sure you spend the majority of the day sending emails and working from your computer at your desk. If you can sit in an office all day working from your computer, you can apply that same skill to your own online business or side hustle and work with clients in the same manner.

I’m not saying don’t invest in online resources or courses because I have and they’ve been life-changing. But what I am saying is, don’t think you have to have all of this knowledge to do the things you’ve been really wanting to do. Analysis paralysis is a real thing!

Now, I love me some courses. In fact, I think it’s a good idea to invest in about 1 to 2 a year to keep up with new marketing strategies and technology especially if you’re planning to run an online business. But don’t let the process of “learning” stop you from taking action and putting your hat in the ring. There’s only one you and there are people waiting for you to share your special gift with the world.

I say all of that to say, START BEFORE YOU’RE READY! Do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t get caught up in thinking you have to “know all the things” before you get started.

This photo was taken at Marie Forleo’s “Everything is Figureoutable” experience in NYC. I’m currently digging into her book. It’s filled with so many gems. I’ll be writing a blog post about it soon.
