5 tips for choosing the best template for your blog

My new lil’ baby is here, ya’ll. My blog has a whole new look and I’m so excited to share it with you guys. I switched out my old theme and moved over to a new platform. (hey Showit!) I recently started using Showit with a few clients and loved that it works with WordPress and it’s so easy to customize and update, unlike some themes that aren’t as easy to work with.

One of the other things I love about using Showit templates is that all of the designs are beautiful and the layouts are perfect for online biz owners. I realized with my old theme that it was time for an update. If you have a blog or you want to start a blog, as your biz grows and evolves so will your website. I was super picky about how I wanted it to look and function so that anyone coming to my site will know exactly how I can help them. Clarity is everything! Did you know that people often leave websites within 10-20 seconds of visiting them if the messaging isn’t clear?

With that in mind, I chose a theme that suited my needs at this stage in the game, rebranded a bit, and updated my copy. If you have a blog or you want to start a blog, as your biz grows and evolves so will your website.

Here are 5 tips for choosing the best template for your blog:

1.Clean design

Having a good design aesthetic important, which means making sure the colors and text work well together and that it’s easy for blog readers to view your content. I typically go after templates that have more neutral colors and I bring in pops of color with my photos. I find that this approach keeps the focus on my content.

2. CTA’s or Call to Actions

If you are planning to blog for biz and you want to make a profit this is important. Making sure your blog has some kind of call to action will help to grow your online business. What I love about a lot of the Showit templates is that they are business-focused, which means they have sections on their templates where you can add CTA’s like your email list opt-ins. If you’ve ever heard the phrase the money is in the list, it’s true! I’ve personally made sales through my email list.

3. Easy to navigate website template

Less is best! This goes hand in hand with choosing a template that has a clean design. You want blog readers to come to your site and be able to easily find things without feeling overwhelmed by tons of options or things all over the place. Remember you have about 10-20 seconds to keep someone on your site before they head somewhere else. Finding a template that is easy to navigate is a major key.

4. Easy to update on your own

(unless you plan to hire out this service)

I’ve worked with a lot of WordPress builders and templates and this by far has been the easiest to work with. It’s truly a drag and drop builder, unlike some builders that only allow you to move things around within the squares on the page. The options to customize your Showit template are endless. It’s similar to Photoshop whereas any object you add to the canvas can be placed anywhere.

5. Mobile ready

If you share your blog posts on social media, most people will be viewing your blog from their cell phones. While a lot of templates are mobile responsive and the mobile version automatically updates when you make changes to the desktop view, with Showit you have to make sure any edits you’ve made on the desktop view are also the same on the mobile device. What I love about having it separate is that you can make the mobile version unique to anyone who views your content on their cell phone.

This isn’t a sponsored post. I just love sharing things that have helped me and made my life a whole lot easier. #teamworksmarternotharder Let me know in the comments section one thing you loved about the blog post.
