How my blog got me to Mexico

How my blog got me to Mexico

For starters, I just want to set the record straight and say it didn’t happen overnight and it wasn’t particularly easy either. When you’re in something for the long haul, it’s important to understand it’s a process and if you continue to put in the work one day you’ll wake up and have everything you’ve ever wanted. However, I’ve been making money online from my blog which has allowed me to spend 24 days in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

Having a travel blog has made it possible to have all these amazing experiences these past several months, like my trip to Playa. If you’re wondering exactly how it’s simple.

Bloggers don’t get paid to “blog” per se. However, it’s possible to earn an income online as a blogger a few different ways:

  1. Affiliate Marketing (this one is common)
  2. Selling your own physical product
  3. Selling digital products (courses, ebooks, etc.)
  4. Selling a service

Basically, you have to sell or promote something in order to make money from your blog.

The way I make money online is by selling my website services as well as other website/virtual assistant work. For my web services, I help people all over the world get started online. I take care of the technical side of the process, making it easier and less stressful so that someone can successfully launch their blog headache-free. I know all too well how overwhelming the process can be for a new online entrepreneur, so I created this process to make it a bit easier to get started. There are other services that are needed online as well. You can read all about them here.

Since I have a travel blog, I was also able to negotiate and get part of my stay discounted in exchange for content. This can be tricky. But if you’re branding is on point and you can effectively communicate your offering to a brand, brands will work with you. I’ve had to tweak my pitch several times depending on the brand and in most cases, you will have to figure out what angle works best. If you remember nothing else in this post (but I hope you remember it everything) remember these two things regarding pitching to brands:

  1. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have (I have around 2K and I’ve worked with several brands even before I reached 2,000 followers on Instagram)
  2. Determine what you + your brand bring to the table. How can you add/bring value to “xyz” brand? (It’s important to remember it’s not all about what you’re going to get out of a particular partnership, but also…what can you GIVE to “xyz” brand?)

Once you have those two things down, you’ll be unstoppable. Let me know in the comments if this was helpful. If you’re thinking about starting a blog and don’t know where to start, join the waitlist to be notified about my  “How to start a blog and monetize it” course.
