“One in Every 50 Travelers Finds the Love of Their Life While on a Flight” is the name of a Travel + Leisure article I recently came across while I was doing research for a brand pitch.

As someone who loves to travel this definitely piqued my interest…for obvious reasons. ha!

The article was based on a travel survey HSBC released several months ago. The topic picked up steam and was shared on a lot of travel sites after HSBC highlighted several interesting travel statistics.

“The survey reveals that 4 percent of people in the U.S. met the love of their life on a plane. With nearly 107,000 flights a day, there are plenty of opportunities to meet your perfect match.”

I don’t know about you guys, but after reading these stats I clearly need to get on more flights. haha

The other interesting thing that was mentioned was that “it’s not just romantic relationships that are created at 30,000 feet.”  “Almost half (47 percent) of air travelers have started a conversation with the stranger next to them; 12 percent have made a lasting friendship on a flight, and 13 percent have made a strong business connection.”

I do feel like there’s something about traveling that makes people more open. I’ve met and connected with a lot of people from different countries and backgrounds while traveling that I don’t think I would have had the same interaction with had we not met while traveling.

The HSBC study also confirmed that “travel really does broaden the mind. More than eight in 10 air travelers (83 percent) believe they now understand the world better; with 67 percent claiming to be more tolerant, and 63 percent more patient as a result of travel.”

I can definitely relate to that. Traveling has changed my life in a way I didn’t imagine it would. It has made me put so many things into perspective. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from traveling is to spend more time cultivating relationships with the people currently in your life and with new people.
